Patients Travel to Pittsburgh for Concussion Care
Out of Town Experience
The UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program faculty and staff strive to make the concussion treatment process as manageable as possible for all patients, but especially those who are traveling for their care. In order to accomplish this all of our appointments are scheduled for the same day, and almost always in the same building.
After completing your clinical evaluation, the faculty then develops an at home treatment plan. This may involve targeted physical rehabilitation, exercise, and in specific cases, medication.
While you’re at home the faculty and staff are available by email and can be reached with any questions. Depending on your recovery out of town patients are typically asked to do one to two follow up appointments.

Melissa, Cleveland, OH
Melissa, a high school soccer player, sustained four sports-related concussions in her career causing her to experience headaches for over a year. When she felt sharp neck pain, dizziness, and headaches following a hit during a soccer game, Melissa’s family was eager to have her evaluated.
After seeing her local neurologist and having very little improvement, Melissa’s mother found the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program online and scheduled an appointment.
