Sports Concussions in the News
ImPACT®, a neurocognitive concussion management tool that provides a baseline for normal functioning brain activities, has received de novo clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
ImPACT has two versions. The original was designed for patients between 12 to 59 years old and runs on a laptop. The new ImPACT Pediatric is for kids younger than 12 years old and runs on an iPad. Both perform a clinician-guided test of cognitive skills. Tests take about 25 minutes and results can be compared to an age-matched cohort from a large database of “normal” patients or to a pre-injury baseline test taken by the patient.
